Meditation Retreats: Austria

AlpenRetreat, Tyrolean Alps, Austria

Set in the glorious Tyrolean Alps of Western Austria, AlpenRetreat runs a variety of retreats ranging from 3 days to 10 days including a 10 day Kriya Yoga Meditation and Initiation Retreat, a 7 day silence meditation retreat with Om Baba blending the teachings of Advaita Vedanta and Yogic disciplines including japa, yoga classes and Kirtan.  The suggested donation for this latter retreat is from €385 to €950 depending on means/earnings.  If you don't want to share bathrooms, there are 3 suites which you can book: Vintage Suite (€ 180), Mountain Suite (€ 120) Indigo Suite (€ 90).  Breakfast is offered at €5 and dinner at €10/15 depending on the size of the meal.  The accomodation is on the very comfortable to luxury range and of course, is set in the most spectacular location surrounded by awe-inspiring mountains and with the legendary Austrian hospitality.  The resort is run by 3 Tyroleans, Jan Thomas, Beatrice Williams and Wolfgang Eisenbeautl and one Scot, Fraser Williams who are all qualified yoga instructors. They have all spent long periods of time in Asia studying under various masters. Their aim is to blend gentle relaxation, organic foods, activity (hatha, kundalini and laya yoga). The retreats are based in the 500 year old house at Fern Pass 1,200 metres above sea level surrounded by ice capped mountains and crystal clear lakes.  The house sports a large yoga/meditation room with sensational mountains views and is perfectly located for hiking in the hills and mountains of the Tyrol.  Mountains are a meditation in themselves and you wait until you inhale that sharp fresh Alpine air.  It will make you consider all other air contaminated!
